The Secret Annex Online is the virtual version of the building where Anne Frank went into hiding during the war. In this three-dimensional online environment visitors can explore the main part of the building and the Secret Annex as they were during the period in hiding. Since its launch in April 2010 the website has attracted 2.119.754 visitors and won various prizes.
International Design and Communication Award
At the third presentation of the International Design & Communication Awards (IDCA) in 2012 it was announced that Anne’s Amsterdam and the Minneapolis Institute of Arts Verso Magazine have won joint first place in the ‘Best App’ category.
The year befiore The Secret Annex Online won silver at the International Design and Communication Awards 2012 in the category Best Digital Campaign.
Two Lovie Awards!
In 2011 the Secret Annex Online won a Golden Lovie Award in the category ‘Charitable Organisations / Non-Profit’, as well as a Silver Lovie Award in the category ‘Education’ for the Anne Frank timeline. The Lovie Awards are the European Webby Awards, and are awarded annually to the best online work in Europe.
Red Dot Award
The Secret Annex Online won a Red Dot Award in the category Communication Design 2011. The Red Dot Design Awards are awarded annually to the best international design.
The Secret Annex Online won a Webby Award in the category Best Cultural Institutions. The Webby Awards are awarded annually to the best websites in the world.
Dutch Interactive Award
The Secret Annex Online won the Dutch Interactive Award 2011 in the category ‘Best Brand Site’. According to the jury, the Secret Annex Online is the logical next step in the innovative story of the Anne Frank House on the web.
Zilveren Spin Award
The Secret Annex Online won the Zilveren Spin (‘Silver Spider’) Award in the category Best Content. The Spin Awards are presented annually to promote creativity and interactive communication.
History Online Prize
The Anne Frank House website won the History Online Prize 2010. This Dutch prize is awarded annually to the best history website.
Adobe Max Award
The Anne Frank House website won the Adobe Max Award in the category ‘Advertising & Branding’. This is the international prize for the best use of Adobe solutions in innovative digital applications.
Site of the Day
On 12 June 2010, Anne Frank’s birthday, the Secret Annex Online was the 'Site of the Day' on the FWA (Favourite Website Awards) site. A great result, which came about through the evaluations of visitors to the FWA website and organisations in the internet sector.
