Emigration plans

Otto and Edith Frank look for ways of leaving Germany. In early March 1933 they reach a decision: through his brother-in-law Erich Elias (his sister Helene’s husband) Otto is given an opportunity to set up a company in the Netherlands.

'Criminals'

Looking back, Otto Frank writes in a letter after the war: “Because so many of my German countryman were turning into hordes of nationalistic, cruel, anti-Semitic criminals, I had to face the consequences, and though this did hurt me deeply, I realized that Germany was not the world and I left my country forever.”
