2008 Winning photo
The jury said about this photo:
We all remember those first moments which required our courage, when we were young. Moments we knew we had to do to 'grow up,' moments when we knew everything would be ok we just had to get past our fears. This magically captures one of these moments.
Evgenia said about her photo:
The girl is very young, not more than five years. While the instructor is fastening the cords, she must feel scared. In fact, soon she will fly up into the air, and as all little children, the girl is afraid of heights. Her mum and dad say something to calm her down, and after this she is not so afraid anymore. She even gets interested. As the instructor draws the cords back, the girl is looking to the ground… And then she’s suddenly in mid air! She flies up so high, that it would scare even most adults. The girl is shouting out loud. The entire beach can hear her. But she is not calling for her parents, nor crying of fear. Approaching the ground quickly she is shouting from the top of her lungs: “I am not afraid!” What else would that be but courage?
