Anne Frank House Marks 50th Anniversary

The official celebration to mark the 50th anniversary of the Anne Frank House will be held in the Westerkerk church on Wednesday 28 April in the presence of Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands.

Before the ceremony, Queen Beatrix will open the new diary room in the Anne Frank House. From 28 April not only Anne Frank’s well-known first diary, with its red and green checked cover, but all of her diaries and manuscripts will be on permanent display in the house where they were written.

Westerkerk church

In the Westerkerk there will be a programme for around 600 guests. The speakers will be Hans Westra, Director of the Anne Frank House, Wim Kok, Chairman of the Supervisory Board and former Prime Minister, and Abram de Swaan, Professor Emeritus of Social Sciences at the University of Amsterdam. There will also be contributions by young people and a musical performance by popular Dutch singer Trijntje Oosterhuis. A Virtual Wing of the Anne Frank House will be launched at the ceremony, with emphasis on the presentation of The Secret Annex Online


NOS and NPS TV will be broadcasting the ceremony in the Westerkerk live on Nederland 1 TV from 15.15 to 16.45 hrs, with highlights being broadcast in the evening.
