This afternoon the Anne Frank House received its one millionth visitor this year: 12-year-old Yara Bos from Haarlem. It is expected that the museum will once again attract a record number of visitors in 2013 (the previous record was in 2012, with 1,152,986 visitors). The majority of the mainly young visitors come from outside of the Netherlands: only around 12% of the visitors are Dutch. Yara is on autumn half-term holiday from school, and came on a day trip to Amsterdam with her mother, sister and brother for a visit to the Anne Frank House. “I’ve had lessons about Anne Frank at school, and I think it’s interesting to see the Secret Annexe”, says Yara.

Millionth visitor Yara was presented with a copy of the Diary of Anne Frank, as well as the new historical Anne Frank House construction kit. Today, like other museum visitors, she could see the new construction kit for the first time, and add a piece to it herself. The creator of the kit, Wouter Biegelaar, was at an ‘open workshop’ in the museum to offer visitors a helping hand.

The large number of visitors is partly thanks to the museum’s long opening hours and the possibility to buy entrance tickets online. In 2014, from 1 April to 1 November, the museum will be open from 9 AM to 9 PM.
