Anne Frank - ‘Smoke rising from the harbour’
On 25 July 1943 Anne and the other people in hiding see ‘Smoke rising from the harbour’, when the Fokker factories in Amsterdam-Noord are bombed for the second time. This Allied bombing raid is succesful: the factories are badly damaged.
The Fokker factories are a target for the allies for a third time, on 28 July. During this last raid 17 civilians are killed. ‘I decided to grit my teeth and practise being courageous.’ writes Anne in her diary. The three bombing raids on the Fokker factories cost 200 civilians their lives.
