Martha van Collem - ‘All of South Amsterdam was cut off’
Martha and her family are picked up during a raid on June 20 1943. They know that they’re going to be picked up and have packed their rucksacks and are ready. Her mother rubbed their shoes with some butter that was left over.

Martha van Collem is one of Margot and Anne Franks’ friends. She visits them regularly in their home on the Merwedeplein and goes to Jewish lessons with Rabbi Mehler with them. On 20 June, 1943 Martha and her parents are picked up during a big raid. The family is transported via Westerbork to Bergen-Belsen concentration camp.
