Otto Frank Work Archive

Otto Frank was the only one of the people in hiding to survive the war. Thanks to his efforts the diary was published in 1947, translated into many languages and became a worldwide success. He dedicated the rest of this life to the diary.

His archive contains correspondence with readers of the diary from around the world, documents on legal actions against neo-Nazis who claimed that the diary was a forgery, correspondence concerning the creation of the stage plays and films, and documentation on the history of the Anne Frank House.

Frank – Elias family archive

For several years the Anne Frank House has administered the archive of the Frank – Elias family. This unique family archive comes from the house in Basel, Switzerland where Otto Frank’s mother and his sister with her family lived from 1931. Buddy Elias, Anne Frank’s cousin, and his wife still live there. The enormous archive goes back to the first half of the 19th century, and contains letters, documents and photos of Otto, Edith, Margot and Anne Frank.

Letter from Alice Stern – the mother of Otto Frank – to her parents, written on highly decorated notepaper.
