Schooldays in Germany

Peter attended a Jewish elementary school, the Israelitische Elementarschule. Almost all classes were taught by the same teacher, and pupils of all those classes sat together in one classroom. When Adolf Hitler came to power in Germany in 1933, Jews were discriminated against, and more and more Jews left Nazi Germany. The number of children at Peter’s school also decreased because pupils were emigrating. Outside the school, Jewish children were bullied by children who were with the Hitlerjugend, the Nazis’ youth organisation.
