A school in Katowice

Otto and the others took the tram from Nowy Bieruń to Katowice. They were housed there in a building near an old mine and later in a school building. Soon they discovered that clothing was in high demand among the local population. Many survivors had brought all kinds of garments from Auschwitz. These came in handy because they could be exchanged for money or food. The former prisoners were officially forbidden from entering the city, but they cared little about rules like that. After his liberation, Otto started recording his experiences in a notebook. In Katowice, he was invited several times to join people for dinner.
