International Anne Frank Youth Network in the Netherlands

None

Aug. 8, 2024 — Over 70 young people from all over the world from the Anne Frank Youth Network travelled to the Netherlands for a five-day event, together with 20 representatives of partner organisations. First in Arnhem and later in Amsterdam, they exchanged experiences, paticipated in workshops and visited war memorials, including a visit to the Anne Frank House. An unforgettable experience for them.

We believe it’s especially important to involve young people in our educational work, and so every year we recruit young people for the Anne Frank Youth Team. Over five weekends the participants learn about Anne Frank in relation to the Second World War and the persecution of the Jews, about prejudice and discrimination, and receive training on how to conduct a dialogue, how to respond to discriminatory comments, and how to organise a project. The young people then work in small teams on project plans and implement the projects. Alumni who previously participated in the Youth Team help with this.

Worldwide

With the help of country coordinators in sixteen different countries we recruit young people from outside of the Netherlands for the international Anne Frank Youth Network. The participants come together – usually online – to discuss and address social issues in their own communities, ranging from topics related to the Second World War, the Holocaust, prejudice, discrimination, democracy and identity.

Support from Erasmus+

Every five years the Anne Frank House brings young people from the Anne Frank Youth Network to the Netherlands for exchange, reflection and inspiration. We are able to do this thanks to financial support from Erasmus+. The event was part of the European Union-funded AFYN (RE)ACT Erasmus+ strategic partnership project, implemented in collaboration with the Krzyzowa Foundation in Poland and HERMES in Croatia.

‘The Anne Frank Youth Forum was a great success! Everyone I spoke to was enthusiastic and said that meeting so many different people gave them a lot of strength and energy to continue their work. Many thanks to the Anne Frank House for this opportunity and the unforgettable memories the forum created. It was a wonderful time in the Netherlands.’
