Travelling exhibitions and activities
In Croatia, the Anne Frank House partner is the Croatian Education and Development Network for the Evolution of Communication – HERMES. The European Union has funded a project called History for Understanding – Dealing with Prejudice and Promoting Human Rights through Dialogue & Debate.
Historija, Istorja, Povijest – Lessons for Today
Between March 2015 and April 2017, the Anne Frank House implemented a regional project in the Western Balkans under the name Historija, Istorija, Povijest – Lessons for Today. Within the framework of this project, Croatia – through cooperation with HERMES – carried out many activities. The exhibition continued touring the country, visiting an additional 20 cities.
In February 2016, a regional Teacher Training Seminar was held in Zagreb and three short films within a Memory Walk workshop were created, highlighting some contemporary issues related to commemoration and remembrance in Croatia.
HERMES trainers helped training their colleagues from Macedonia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, and Serbia in a Regional Peer Guide Training of Trainers in Zagreb in July 2015 and in the Memory Walk Training of Trainers in February 2016. HERMES trainers also conducted 82 Memory Walk workshops across the country.
Free2choose-Create
In March 2013, fifteen high school students from across Croatia gathered in Zagreb. Together with the Anne Frank House and HERMES trainers, they created the Croatian Free2choose-Create clips. These can be seen on the Free2choose YouTube channel. These films have been viewed by schools in many cities across Croatia. Furthermore, educational materials and resources have been translated and adapted to Croatian. As a result, over 1500 high school students have taken part in debates and discussions on issues relating to human rights.

Teacher Training
Coinciding with the opening of the travelling exhibition in Zagreb, HERMES held a Teacher Training Seminar with Anne Frank House experts. 25 educators from all over Croatia attended this seminar, accredited by the national Teacher Training Agency. They discussed issues such as dealing with discrimination and prejudice in the classroom. The seminar was generously supported through a MATRA grant by the Dutch embassy in Croatia.
