It is exactly 77 years ago today that Anne Frank, the seven other people in hiding with her in the Secret Annex and two of their non-Jewish helpers were arrested.
Sequel to Anne Frank video diary launched worldwide

Aug. 4, 2021 — The Anne Frank House today launches the sequel to the Anne Frank video diary, After the Arrest, worldwide on its YouTube channel. In three new episodes Anne Frank, played by Luna Cruz Perez, shares her life, thoughts and feelings about the time after the period she spent in hiding.
After the Arrest is the sequel to the Anne Frank video diary, which was published in May 2020. In the video diary Anne films herself and the events in the Secret Annex, and shares her deepest thoughts and feelings. The first part of the video diary ends on 4 August 1944, the day of the arrest.
After the Arrest
The second part of the video diary, After the Arrest, follows Anne’s life story after the period in hiding. From an indeterminate time and place, Anne looks back on the events after the arrest – the last six months of her life in the concentration camps – telling of them in monologues.

New way
In search of a new way of telling Anne Frank’s life story to young people, in partnership with the Anne Frank House, Every Media developed the Anne Frank video diary: an online video series on YouTube based on the diary of Anne Frank. Every Media produced the sequel, After the Arrest, in partnership with the Anne Frank House and the Dutch public-service broadcaster NTR. The book Na het Achterhuis (‘After the Secret Annex’) by Bas von Benda-Beckmann and other relevant sources such as eyewitness testimonies formed the basis of the episodes about the time after the arrest.

It makes a deep impression to look through Anne’s eyes at the last months of her life; the terrible time in the camps. With this sequel we’ve answered the questions of many young people about what happened to Anne after her arrest; the period she couldn’t describe in her diary.’
Five languages
The first episode of the second series will be published today at 5PM CET, the second episode follows on 6 August, and the third and last episode on 9 August. The new episodes, each of around 15 minutes long, can be seen worldwide on the YouTube channel of the Anne Frank House. The video series is in Dutch, with German, English, Portuguese and Spanish subtitles.
In-depth exploration and education
The fifteen episodes of the Anne Frank video diary are accompanied by seven educational videos that emphasise the fact that the video diary is based on a true story, and that deal with themes such as discrimination, scapegoating, making choices, and freedom. The educational videos are also available in five different languages. Teachers can use the video series in the classroom in combination with the educational videos and accompanying teaching materials.
