Academy Award for her role in The Diary of Anne Frank

The first film based on Anne’s diary was The Diary of Anne Frank by George Stevens (1959). This American production won three Oscars. One of these went to Shelley Winters, for Best Supporting Actress. Winters played the role of Petronella van Daan, the pseudonym of Auguste van Pels.

In 1975, Shelley Winters donated her Oscar to the Anne Frank House.
