As from September 1941, Jews were no longer allowed to go to the cinema. And so, Anne and her friend Jacqueline van Maarsen organised a film screening at her home at Merwedeplein 37-II in March 1942.

‘We typed out invitations on her father’s typewriter. We took great pains over the seating arrangements, deciding who should sit next to whom, and we lined up the chairs in rows. It was supposed to look as much as possible lke a real theatre.’
