Israel and Gaza

The Anne Frank House is a museum and educational organisation. We do not comment on geopolitical developments. Like Otto Frank, Anne Frank's father, we believe that education is the key to a better world.

Countering antisemitism, racism and discrimination is an essential part of our mission. Through our global educational programmes, we encourage young people to stand up for freedom, equal rights and democracy. Anne Frank's life story plays a vital role in this effort, her words continue to resonate and inspire people around the world.

On this page you can learn more about who we are, what we stand for and what we do in the field of education.

We are concerned

We are deeply concerned about the war between Israel and Hamas, which is inflicting deep wounds on Israelis and Palestinians and fuelling mistrust and hatred between the two peoples. We are also deeply concerned about the consequences of this war in the rest of the world: the increasing hardening, the increasing hatred, against Jews, against Muslims.

No one should be held personally responsible for the actions of others – not for the actions of fellow citizens, fellow believers, or for the policies of a government. Jews are not responsible for the policies of the Israeli government, Muslims are not responsible for the actions of Hamas.

What we stand for

We stand for a just and safe solution for all those directly affected by the conflict. This includes recognising Israel's right to exist, as well as supporting the right of the Palestinians to self-determination.

Humanitarian aid and the protection of innocent civilians are urgently needed.

Our educational offer

Young people are in an ideal position to act as bridge-builders and positively influence the world around them. Our educational activities are designed to help them learn from the past in ways that matter today. The Anne Frank House develops a range of educational programmes for young people to promote tolerance and mutual respect in society. This includes countering prejudice, antisemitism and other forms of discrimination.

‘We wholeheartedly support initiatives that bring people together to connect with one another. It is essential that we act together to counter antisemitism and other forms of group-based hatred. Anne Frank's life story began with prejudice and preconceptions: issues that still lead to antisemitism and other forms of discrimination in the world today. As Anne Frank House we want to raise (young) people’s awareness of the dangers of antisemitism, racism and discrimination and the importance of freedom, equal rights and democracy – together with partners worldwide.’
