Physical accessibility

Anne Frank House for people with a mobility disability

Anne Frank House consists of the historic front house and the Secret Annex. Because of the stairs, the historic section is unfortunately not accessible by wheelchair or other mobility aids. The steep stairs and high steps may also be a barrier for visitors who have difficulty climbing stairs.

Support and tips:

  • The modern part of the museum is partly accessible for visitors using a wheelchair or other mobility aids. This is where you will find the temporary exhibition, scale models of the Secret Annex, the museum café and the museum shop. These areas can be reached by lift with the help of a staff member, via an accessible entrance.
  • Take part in an introductory program in one of our educational spaces.
  • Do you have difficulty climbing stairs? Find out in advance what to expect regarding steep stairs and high steps along the museum route. Photos of all the staircases in our museum, with descriptions, can be viewed below or in this PDF.
  • Please note that seating is only available at the beginning and end of the museum route. If you would like to be able to sit down during the route, ask for a portable stool at the information desk.

Accessibility & stairs

You’ll come across these during your visit:

  • 3 steep staircases up
  • 3 normal staircases down
  • 1 high step (39 cm / 15,3 inches)
  • 2 small staircases
